HOW TO GET WIFI AT HOME SECURED?

With countless stories doing round about security breaches and unauthorized accesses to home cameras, smart products, baby monitors etc, you should be seriously thinking about your home WiFi security. We have listed four ways in which you can achieve greater network security and avoid unwanted security breaches.

  • WIFI SETTINGS:

You should immediately change your WiFi name and password and choose something other than the default settings. Default passwords can be searched online if anyone knows your WiFi name. Avoid using family names or birthdays and anniversaries that any one can know. Secure your wireless network security by using unique combination of numbers, symbols and letters.

  • ROUTER SETTINGS:

In order to get a secure WiFi, you also need to change all the default settings of your router too. Make sure admin logins are hard to guess. The ‘admin’ controls who accesses the network, what is being searched or shared online through use of WiFi and most importantly your router firewall. So admin access needs to be protected with strong passwords.

Also use WPA2 encryption for your  wireless internet router. It will not allow any unwanted access. Even if some one has been able to hack your network, they will not get access to any of your information. Devices that are more than a decade older may not have WPA2 option so are at greater risk of security hackings and unauthorised access to your personal information.

  • UP TO DATE FIRMWARE:

This is most technical step of all. Firmware is all about your device hardware; its physical parts and pieces. Unlike software updates that are automatic, you will have to do firmware update manually. You can get firmware updates online and install them by following simple instructions . Firmware updates are necessary for WiFi security.

  • VPN SERVICE:

This is completely optional way to secure your network. VPN or Virtual Private network will hide the location of your device. This implies that the hacker will have to first find your device before breaking into your network. VPN are usually downloadable programs with simple easy download steps.

Remember every device on your network is equally likeable to be hacked. Use encryption and passwords for all your devices and smart gadgets at home. Use firewalls and change settings from default for all routers and devices. We hope you can now understand how to get WiFi at home secured from unwanted access and hacking.
